The last Eve by transe The last Eve by transe
I've been thinking a while ago about the last man and his duty of becoming immortal again, to close and complete the circle of life. But that ought to be possible only if the last Eve would take back the gift that she gave us: herself. Self sacrifice...the supreme act of love...

Wow! I noticed a great variety of new submissions in your gallery, but this one drew me in instantly. I mentioned this before, but there is definitely a reoccurring theme that is so intriguing about your portfolio: powerful, but very feminine (even fragile) women, gorgeous hair and garments, and it's all intertwine with nature's beauty especially with birds and tree roots. WoW, there is tons of inspiring metaphorically messages that you're projecting! You're definitely an artist that paints from the soul.

Please never stop creating!

Till next time~

I always thought that they look like me. This time although I used a reference photo the girl I drew actually looks physically like me, it's almost a self portrait. O_o

This is just... wow. The feeling in this piece is really profound. So, the last Eve sacrifices herself for the last Adam, so that he would become immortal, did I get it right?

Yes, and with him the whole humanity :) That sounds sad. I wonder if I could do that...

It's a moving story... Eve, originally created from Adam's rib, ends up sacrificing herself for him and humanity... I think it's evocative that the snake is in the picture, as well as the thorns, reminding me of Jesus' crown of thorns. And the last breath of life, the crows flying into the light, her veins turning into something that looks like tree branches (like those of the tree of knowledge)... I've been thinking about the Genesis a lot lately, and I walked around in a medieval church today, looking at the paintings and the items in the half-light. The theme strikes a chord somehow, thank you for sharing this. :) I don't know if I could give my life for someone, but it's a beautiful thought somehow...

It's difficult for my mind to understand the concept of common conscience. I'm an hopeless individualist, I suppose. ^^;
Here there are quite a few medieval churches but the atmosphere isn't that solemn because of... the way society constructed itself these days. I somehow get the feeling that there should be a sacred place for each one of us. Individuals tend to share the same energy and dynamics of a group and I perceive it most of the time as being negative...
This is one of those drawings that not many people like... ^^; Thank you for taking the time to understand it :)

Well, I do think that group dynamics can very often be negative, and that spirituality should be a deeply individual thing. I've got rather painful and complicated history with regard to the subject, but I won't bore you with all the details. I was raised a devout Christian and struggled out of my faith as a teen. I very much disliked going to churches, until I had managed to cut all my official ties to the institution, and eventually declared myself as Pagan. Now I can sit there quietly without anyone knowing. I was originally raised as a Protestant, so the relics and the pictures seem mysterious to me, filled with traces of different folk cultures. The story of the last immortal Adam could well have been circulating back in the medieval times somewhere. I like that sort of stuff. :)

That sounds strange to me, because the Protestant church isn't so strict. The Orthodox Church painting has pretty exact rules, it leaves no space for interpretation for a painter, so no folk elements here - I now that for sure because I used to be a church painter.
Who knows, maybe some thoughts aren't our own...

Oh, well to be more precise, the main church in Finland is the Lutheran Protestant church, but I belonged to a Pentecostalist Free Church sect. Both of them are Protestant in the regard that saints aren't venerated at all. Reminiscing saints is something I may have referred to as 'folk culture' (maybe I chose my words a bit inaccurately), because it includes elements not included in the Bible at all. With regard to pictures, the Pentecostalist church is really minimalist, with only a simple cross on a white wall. So I find more elaborate pictures and decoration in churches fascinating (also those in some older Lutheran churches). How did you like being a church painter?

I see... Well, I don't know if I could feel any spiritual vibe in a church with white walls, it wouldn't give me the impression of holiness :)
I liked the fact that I knew for sure that my paintings will be seen and will remain there for a very long time. But as I've said, there's no room for interpretation, there are rules to follow and I'm more of a creative person, I don't like restraints. So this branch of art isn't suitable for a person like me ^^;
